Kathryn Kurtz, LMSW
Kathryn is a fully licensed Master Level Social Worker and has a CAADC. She will be working full time in our Marquette office. Kathryn comes from the outpatient Behavioral Health Services office at Duke Lifepoint. Kathryn sees teenagers and adults for mental health and adults for substance abuse issues.
Mary Sparapani is the Child Welfare Supervisor for Catholic Social Services. Mary works out of the Iron Mountain office, supervising a team of Child Welfare case managers who provide foster care, adoption, and foster home licensing across the Upper Peninsula. Additionally, Mary provides Adoption services to Upper Peninsula youths who have been abused or neglected by their biological family and are now in need of permanency with a safe and loving home. Mary graduated in 1985 from Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Mary came to CSS in April 2014, after working 25+ years for the State of MI, Department of Human Services as a Child Protective Services and Foster Care Specialist. Mary specializes in a Strength Based, Solution Focused Approach when working with families. Mary has a sincere passion to help parents provide a safe and nurturing environment where their children can grow to be confident, secure and productive members of our Upper Peninsula communities.
Lynda Dunbar, LMSW, CAADCLynda is a fully licensed Master Level Social Worker and recently earned her CAADC. Lynda has a Bachelor’s degree in Social work from Northern Michigan University and earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Michigan State University.She’s now providing comprehensive substance abuse evaluation and driver’s license substance abuse assessments. She’s beenworking full time in our Marquette office since September 2016. Lynda previously worked as an RN in home care and hospice. Her first social work position was with hospice patients and their families in Western North Carolina. She did this type of work for over 6 years. She’s also worked in an in-patient substance abuse detox and psychiatric unit before moving back to the Upper Peninsula. Lynda provides individual and group counseling to adults of all ages for mental health and substance abuse issues. Lynda is experienced in working with those facing grief and loss issues and with older adults.
Kristy Howell, B.A.
Kristy Howell is a Child Welfare Specialist for Catholic Social Services. Kristy works out of the Iron Mountain office, on a team of Child Welfare case managers who provide foster care, adoption, and foster home licensing across the Upper Peninsula. Kristy brings to CSSUP a well-rounded child welfare background in Foster Care Case Management and Foster Home Licensing recruitment and retention and will be adding Adoption services to her repertoire. Kristy graduated in 1999 from Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota with Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Sociology/Anthropology. Kristy came to CSSUP in September of 2017, after working 17+ years as a Services Specialist for the State of Michigan, Department of Health & Human Services in Dickinson County where she did Foster Home Licensing, Foster Care Case Management, Child Protective Services, and Juvenile Justice Case Management. Kristy has a sincere passion to seek out and encourage others in the community to become foster and/or adoptive parents and make a difference in the lives of the children we serve! Foster Parents provide a safe and nurturing environment where children in need can grow to be confident, secure, and productive members of our Upper Peninsula communities.
